Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam is a former back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her the position of curator for the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She along with her family moved into the historical landmark. The year 2005 marks her Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduate She is an instructor in the field of vocal music. Sullivan started singing in children's chorus in the contralto position, and then she joined the adult choir just a couple of years later. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was initially minimal "I was doing solos in church and someone wanted me to be a part of gospel labels when I was 11, but I was not ready to do that," she recalls. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to children from major cities. It was then that I had the chance to sing Accept What God Wills on Showtime Apollo. The crowd was supportive." The singer performed along with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday celebration at thirteen. Sullivan had signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was 15. It was her first time signing with Jive Records when she was 15. She recorded an entire album, but the album didn't get released. Sullivan was ultimately dismissed by the label. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott, who produced many of the tracks in her debut album which included the hit single "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
